As part of the observation of the Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2024, a Tree Plantation Drive cum Awareness Programme on Waste Recovery was organized today by the District Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), East Jaintia Hills District at Latyrke Community Hall, Latyrke, East Jaintia Hills District.
Attended by Sutnga-Saipung MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla as Chief Guest, the event also witnessed the participation of Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, Executive Engineer, Electrical Division, Jowai cum Member Secretary, District Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin), East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Paul Synnah, other government officials, traditional heads and people of the area.
During the programme, the Chief Guest along with other dignitaries inaugurated the Waste Recovery Centre, Latyrke Village and an Additional Classroom at Latyrke Secondary School, Latyrke was also inaugurated on the occasion.
Speaking to the gathering, Sutnga-Saipung MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla lauded the residents of Latyrke Village for their collective effort in facilitating usage of the DMF fund and enabling the completion of the two projects inaugurated at the programme, namely, construction of the Waste Recovery Centre and Additional Class Room at LatyrkeSecondary School.
Speaking on the importance of waste management,Smti. Shylla also enlightened the gathering on global warming even as she emphasized on the importance of tree plantation and took the occasion to urge upon the gathering to take initiatives in environment conservationefforts and to set a good example for future generations to emulate.
Furthermore, Smti. Shylla also impressed upon the gathering on the importance of cleanliness not only in homes but also in the community while also urging them to spread awareness to others on the importance of cleanliness and waste management in day to day life.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi in his speech during the programme congratulated all the stakeholders for the successful completion of the Waste Recovery Centre while also informing the gathering that Swachhata Hi Seva was launched with the vision of Mahatma Gandhi to make every village clean and also to promote rural economy as an independent entity wherein whatever is required in the village is generated within the village.
Further, he also expressed hope that the Waste Recovery Centre inaugurated will not only help the residents of the village to clean their surroundings but it would aid generation of funds through waste segregation. Shri Awasthi also urged the gathering to practice waste segregation in their homes and also to co-operate with the traditional headsin order to extractoptimum benefits from the Waste Recovery Centre.
