The three days District Level Inter School Athletic Meet 2026 organized by the Office of the District Sports Officer (DSO), East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with East Jaintia District Sports Association (EJHDSA) began today the 29th April, 2025 at Teilang Playground, Dkhiah West, East Jaintia Hills District.

            The opening ceremony of this year’s meet was attended by District School Education Officer (DSEO), East Jaintia Hills District, Shri R. Diengdoh in the presence of District Sports Officer (DSO), East Jaintia Hills District, Smti. Stephanie M Rapsang, Principals, Teachers, Students and others.

            Addressing the gathering, District School Education Officer (DSEO), East Jaintia Hills District, Shri R. Diengdoh stated that sports is not merely about winning medals, however, it is also about building discipline, team work and character. He underscored the importance of participation in sports which also serves as a platform which teaches individuals how to face challenges, rise after failure and respect one another even as he urged the athletes to give their best efforts; not only to win but to continuously improve themselves and reminded them that every race and game they participate contributes to building their strength and confidence.

            Shri Diengdoh further emphasized the significance of struggle and hard work which are powerful tools which can lead an individual towards achieving success. He also reminded the students that irrespective of their results, their participation in sports is to always uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and to respect opponents even as he encouraged them to dream big and remain committed in whichever field they choose to pursue.

            He also commended the teachers and organizers for their constant guidance and support and acknowledged that their dedication plays a vital role in shaping the future of the students of the district.

The inaugural day featured various track and field events conducted across different categories with winners being announced on the day.  In the Under-18 Girls Long Jump event, Samjana Phawa of Sein Raij Tuber Higher Secondary School secured the first position with a jump of 3.22 metres, followed by Gracy Rasmut of Sanshnong Secondary School in second place with 3.01 metres while Hawana Dkhar of Shamsham Secondary School finished third with a leap of 2.99 metres.

 In the Under-16 Boys Shot Put event, Reform Dkhar of Shamsham Secondary School clinched the first position with a throw of 11.10 metres, with Jame Pdein of Sanshnong Secondary School and Saviournass Rymbai of Byndihati Secondary School securing second and third positions respectively.

In the Under-18 Boys High Jump category, Teibokmi Pdein of Sanshnong Secondary School emerged first with a jump of 1.51 metres, followed by Rooneybert Dkhar of Wapung Higher Secondary School and Give Me Well Dkhar of Shamsham Secondary School in the second and third place respectively.

 The Javelin Throw events also witnessed strong competition, where Smiling Dkhar of Sanshnong Secondary School secured first position in the Under-16 Girls category with a throw of 20.90 metres, while Phiang Dkhar and Nipaya Dkhar secured second and third positions with throws of 18.15 metres and 15.20 metres respectively.

 In the Under-18 Girls Javelin Throw, Sathi Phawa of Sanshnong Secondary School bagged the first position with a throw of 17.90 metres, followed by Pawlisa Dkhar of Shamsham Secondary School and Bhaki Sana of Sein Raij Branch UP School in the second and third places with throws of 17.60 metres and 16.35 metres respectively. It may be mentioned that altogether, over 30 schools are participating in in this year’s District Level Inter School Athletics Meet and the competition is set to continue on 30th April 2026 and will conclude on Friday.
