Ri-Bhoi Police have appealed to the public for assistance in identifying an unidentified man whose body was found in a drain in the MIDC area near Rapsang Mill in Umiam on July 27.
According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Ri-Bhoi District, information about the body was received from the Headman of Umiam. Police immediately conducted an enquiry, but the deceased could not be identified. After completing all legal formalities, including the inquest and post-mortem examination, the body was shifted to the Civil Hospital Mortuary in Nongpoh for identification and further necessary action.
Police have also circulated a wireless message to all Officers-in-Charge, Outposts, AD Camps and Police Information Centres across the country to help establish the identity of the deceased.
The deceased is described as a male, approximately 157 cm tall, and was wearing a white and blue checkered long-sleeve shirt. According to the post-mortem examination, he is suspected to be non-tribal.
