The 65th Teachers’ Day was celebrated in East Jaintia Hills District on September 5, organised by the District School Education Officer (DSEO) at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School.

            The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner Manish Kumar, DSEO R Diengdoh, Sub-Divisional School Education Officer Onikson Sumer, education department officials, teachers, students, NCC, Scouts & Guides and others.

            Addressing the gathering, Kumar acknowledged the dedication and contribution of teachers, describing them as second parents, lifelong mentors and guides. He said teachers play an important role in instilling values such as empathy, courage, commitment and discipline among students.

            He also stressed the growing importance of teachers in today’s technology-driven society. He urged them to guide students in distinguishing facts from rumors, developing critical thinking, nurturing values and becoming responsible citizens. He also encouraged students to dream high, work hard and develop a sense of purpose beyond career-building.

            During the programme, has also felicitated three awardees for their contribution to education. The District Awardees were Sumant Kumar, Principal of Topcem Public School, Campus Meghalaya Cement Ltd., and Smt. Nazariness Nongtdu, Head Teacher of Khliehriat West Government L P School. The State Awardees was Smt. Respilda Phawa, Head Teacher of Mukhaialong Memorial L.P. School.

            The celebration also featured cultural dances and musical performances by students from various schools across East Jaintia Hills District.
