The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills informed that the State Council of Science, Technology & Environment (SCS), Meghalaya invites proposals from interested individuals and groups for short -term (6months) science related projects/research in the form of applied or action research. The goal is to develop innovative and practical solutions that address the unique socio economic challenges in Meghalaya. Projects should focus on creating tangible benefits for the community, such as improving livelihoods, enhancing public services or promoting sustainable development.
The Deputy Commissioner encouraged students of the district to take part in the “Call for Proposal in Science & Technology for Socio Economic Benefit in Meghalaya”, The last date of submission of proposal is on or before 16th march, 2026
Project Categories & Funding Assistance
Proposals will be considered from the following categories, with maximum financial assistance provided.
A. School Student category: Up to Rs.20,000
B. College Student category (UG/PG) Up to Rs.1.5 lakh
C. Research Scholar Category: Up to Rs.12 lakh
D. Open Category: Up to Rs.1 lakh
Areas of Focus:
Proposals are encouraged in, but not limited to, the following areas:
1. Agriculture, Food & Life Sciences: Crop improvement, soil microbiology, plant/animal
health, biotechnology, precision farming, post-harvest technology, value addition, and
sustainable farming solutions.
2. Environmental Science & Engineering: Waste management, renewable energy, water
conservation, pollution monitoring, climate adaptation, biodiversity preservation,
ecosystem studies.
3. Health, Hygiene & Biomedical Science: Affordable healthcare solutions, sanitation
technologies, disease prevention, diagnostics, public health interventions, nutrition
science, biomedical innovations.
4. Technology & Digital Innovation: Educational tools, digital literacy initiatives, mobile
apps, GIS, AL, IoT solutions, data-driven decision support for local communities.
5. Engineering & Infrastructure: Low-cost engineering solutions, disaster-resilient
structures, renewable energy installations, clean water and sanitation systems.
6. Traditional Knowledge & Scientific Validation: Documentation and STEM-based
scientific analysis or technological application of indigenous knowledge, crafts, and
practices.
7. STEM-Driven Livelihood & Entrepreneurship: Technologies, prototypes, or solutions
that promote income generation, skill development, local manufacturing, or youth/women
empowerment.
8. Open STEM / Life Science Innovation: Any interdisciplinary STEM or life science
project with clear socio-economic benefits, even if it does not fall into the above categories.
9. Communication during Disaster Response: Developing communication tools in emergency situations, Mobile and social media solutions, Low-tech and infrastructure independent solutions, communication management and coordination.
10. Rejuvenation of wetlands/Restoration of land mines: Ecological restoration, biodiversity enhancement, water management and quality improvement, sustainable economic development and community engagement, technological innovation and monitoring.
All interested applicants must submit a detailed project proposal (DPR) using the proforma provided
The proposal must be uniformly typed in word document using New Tim Roman in 12-point font in A4 size paper. The proposal should clearly outline the project objectives, methodology, expected outcomes, and a detailed budget.
Proposals can be submitted either in off-line mode or on-line mode. Off-line submission the proposal has to be printed and kept in a sealed envelope clearly mentioning “SUBMISSION OF DETAIL PROJECT PROPOSAL UNDER SPONSORED
