The Department of Sociology, Captain Williamson Sangma State University, Balalgre, Tura, is organising a One-Day Symposium on the theme “Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS): Sustainable Future” on 22nd October 2025.

As part of the University’s commitment to advancing research and dialogue on indigenous knowledge, culture, and sustainable development, the symposium aims to bring together scholars, researchers, and practitioners to explore the role of traditional knowledge in addressing contemporary challenges.

The Inaugural Session will commence at 10:00 AM on the University premises, with Smt. Hema Nayak, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South West Garo Hills, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Keynote Address will be delivered by Prof. Bodhi Sainkupar Rani, Associate Professor and Chairperson, Centre for Social Justice and Governance, School of Social Work, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.

The Valedictory Session will be held at 3:00 PM on the same day, with Dr. Vasanthi Vijaykumar, Vice Chancellor, Captain Williamson Sangma State University, as the Chief Guest.

The event will feature eminent resource persons from across the country and a wide range of participants from within Meghalaya, fostering dialogue and collaboration on indigenous perspectives for a sustainable future.
