On the 22nd January 2025 the Office of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Social Welfare Department, West Jaintia Hills District in Collaboration with the Block Mission Management Unit, (MSRLS) Laskein Block inaugurated the 10 Years Celebration of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Programme at the Office of the Block Development Officer, Laskein Block West Jaintia Hills District. The Programme was chaired by Smt.S.Lamare, Gender Specialist, and District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Social Welfare Department, West Jaintia Hills District. The programme was participated by SHGS, Asha and Aganwadi and other Dignitaries such as the Block Development Officer, Laskein Block, Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Laskein Block, and the Officials from the District Mission Management Unit and Block Mission. Smt .Y.Kyndait, Gender Specialist, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, West Jaintia Hills District, in her introductory speech highlighted the purpose of the 10 years Celebration of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Programme which emphasis the milestone achievement of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme started from 22nd January 2025 till 8th March 2025 and as part of this celebration different kind of activities and programme will be conducted. The Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is the flagship programme of the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. The scheme was launched in 2015, the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme aims to address concerns about gender discrimination and women empowerment in the country. The name Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao translates to ‘Save the girl child, educate the girl child’. The scheme aims to educate citizens against gender bias and improve the efficacy of welfare services for girls.
She stated that in the West Jaintia Hills District it was implemented in the year 2023 and it is one of the Components of the Mission Shakti Schemes implemented by District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Social Welfare Department, West Jaintia Hills District and since then, many programme was conducted related to Safety and Security of Women and Girls, Laws related to Women Safety, Gender sensitization, Health, Education and other activities emphasis on women Participation and Empowerment.
She also highlighted the other Components under Mission Shakti such as Women Helpline 181, One Stop Centre, PMMVY, Aganwadi Cum Creche and Financial Literacy
Dr.F.R.Shadap, Block Development Officer, Laskein Block in his speech stated that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao is a scheme aim to empower Women he stated that Women in Meghalaya is considered as one of the luckiest as compare to others State and hope with the implement of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao it will help participation of Women more at all levels. Meghalaya is a matrilineal Society hence Women are more empowered. He urges the participants to invest in the Education of the Girls Child so that to improve their overall wellbeing.

Smt.D.lakai, Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Laskein Block highlighted the various services provider under the Integrated Child Development Schemes such as Nutrition and preschool programme .She encourages the participants to treat their Children equally so that to end the Gender Inequality and also cautious the usage of social Media among Children and adolescence since it affect them mentally.
Shri K. Kharkongor, District Functional Specialist, District Mission Management Unit, West Jaintia Hills District (MSRLS) Highlighted the various programmes under the National Rural Livelihood Mission related to empowerment, safety, participation, Health of Women and Children through SHGs.
Speech Shri F.Khonglah, Cluster Coordinator, Block Mission Management Unit, Laskein Block encourages participants to end Gender roles and Gender Inequality starting from household level.
The programme also included cultural programmes performed by the SHGS and Oath taking ceremony pledge to eliminate gender-based discrimination and Ensure Girls Child Education.
