A 14-member media delegation of Journalists from Meghalaya and Tripura, currently on a press tour to Karnataka, called on Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thawar Chand Gehlot today. Additional Director General, PIB Karnataka Region Shri SG Raveendra and officials of PIB Bengaluru also accompanied the team during the visit.

The Governor warmly received the team and extended his best wishes for their ongoing tour across various parts of the State. He commended the role of such media exchange programmes by Press Information Bureau (PIB) in promoting mutual understanding and facilitating the sharing of development initiatives and best practices between regions.

The Governor expressed hope that the visit would give the media representatives a broad and in-depth understanding of Karnataka’s progress across critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, space, industry and rural development. He emphasized the importance of such firsthand engagements in grasping the real impact of developmental initiatives at the grassroots level.

Reflecting on his tenure as Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, the Governor fondly recalled his interactions with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Conrad Sangma. He highlighted the collaborative efforts undertaken during his tenure and their shared commitment to inclusive and sustainable development.

During the interaction, Shri Gehlot enquired about the status of a sports stadium of international standards for persons with disabilities (PwDs), a project initiated during his tenure as a Union Minister. He recalled that land had been allotted by the Government of Meghalaya for the purpose and expressed hope that the project had seen progress since then, noting its potential to promote para-sports and empower differently-abled athletes through world-class facilities.

To this, the official accompanying the delegation informed the Governor that significant progress has been made on the project.

The Governor further remarked that such visits help build bridges between states, enhance awareness of regional achievements and promote engagement between media and government institutions.

He also proposed that similar delegations from Karnataka should be encouraged to visit the North Eastern states, highlighting that such interactions would showcase the development happening in those regions and contribute to national integration through deeper understanding and collaboration.
