Together with the rest of the country, East Jaintia Hills District today the 5th September, 2025 celebrated the 64th Teachers’ Day at a programme held at the Auditorium of Khliehriat Higher Secondary School, Khliehriat.

            Organized by the office of District School Education Officer (DSEO), East Jaintia Hills District, the programme was attended by Rymbai-Khliehriat MDC, Smt Violet Lyngdoh as Chief Guest in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, S . Marak, MCS, former District School Education Officer (DSEO), East Jaintia Hills District, Smt P Dkhar, Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDEO), East Jaintia Hills District, Onikson Sumer, other Government officials, school Principals, teachers and students.

            In her address during the programme, Rymbai- Khliehriat MDC,  Lyngdoh emphasized the crucial role played by teachers in shaping individuals, communities and society at large and took the occasion to congratulate all the teachers including District, State and National Awardees for their relentless efforts in guiding students to the right path of life.

            Lyngdoh while comparing teachers to the lamp which can light up the life of individuals stated that teaching is the most rewarding profession which can have a huge impact in the lives of both students and teachers even as she also extended her gratitude to all teachers gathered on the occasion for their dedication and hardwork and also encouraged them to always remain kind, humble and inspired.

            Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, S R Marak in his speech highlighted the importance of teaching, the responsibilities that come with it and the impact which teachers have on society and commended the selfless service of all the teachers in the district even as he encouraged them to continue shaping the future of young minds.

            Further, Marak urged students present at the programme to strive for academic excellence as a way to show respect to teachers and reiterated the global impact of teaching and said that a teacher is the most punctual and disciplined professional in society.

            During the programme, dignitaries jointly distributed the District Awards 2025 to teachers both in Secondary and Primary Levels as also the District Best Guide Captain 2025.

            Assistant Teacher of Khliehriat Higher Secondary School, Khliehriat, Smt Laura Suja, B.A, B. Ed. won the Secondary Level Award, Headmaster of Saipung Government U P School, Saipung, Lairemzoma Thianglai, MA, B.Ed, D.El. Ed, was bestowed with the Upper Primary Level Award and Head Teacher of Sohkymphor Nein Government LP School, Sohkymphor, Wiles Singh Langstang, PU (Science) bagged the Lower Primary Level Award while the District Best Guide Captain 2025 was secured by Mrs. Memorial Nongtdu of Khliehriat Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Khliehriat.

Adding colour to the programmewere dances and songs performed by students from different schools of the district.

            It may be mentioned that the 64thTeachers Day in East Jaintia Hills District was marked by notable achievements at the State and National Levels by distinguished teachers of the district with Principal of K B Memorial Secondary School, Wapung, Dr Heipor Uni Bang winning the National Teacher Award 2025 and Assistant Teacher, Tluh Secondary School, Tluh, Smt. Tasiana Kympatbagging the State Award 2025.
