AG Meghalaya Futsal Team have been crowned champions of Big FM’s Big Futsal Fest, Shillong’s 1st ever Inter Office Futsal Tournament. They lifted the title today at the Thrive Sports Arena, Langkydring after defeating a spirited Meghalaya Secretariat Home Guards (MSHG) team 6-1.

It was a dominant display by the champion team that has in its ranks former I League and current Shillong Premier League players. MSHG were admirable in their effort to put up a fight but eventually the experience and skill of AG Meghalaya came through. Sheen Sohktung provided another star turn with 2 goals while his team mate Rustomwell Khriam also scored a brace.

The revelation of the tournament Fivestar Shylla, who up to the finals had netted a remarkable 17 goals, added one more to his tally with an accomplished finish but in the end it wasn’t enough to help his team.
Big Futsal Fest lived up to the promise of festivity and friendly rivalry and the hundreds of people who attended the tournament were not left disappointed. The day kicked off with an exhibition match of women’s Futsal between the employees of Rani Motors and the students of MIMHANS. The game set up a celebratory atmosphere that carried on well into the final match with both teams showing that Futsal can be ably played by the women of the state as well.

The event ended with a prize distribution ceremony where Fivestar Shylla was awared Golden Boot, Sheen Sohktung won the Golden Ball as best player of the tournament and Kitbok Nongrum of MIMHANS took the Golden Glove trophy for his goal keeping display throughout the tourney. Former I League and Indian National team player, Aiborlang Khongjee presented the winner’s trophy to the champions of Shillong’s inaugural Office Futsal Tournament, AG Meghalaya FT.

Big Futsal Fest is a unique government-private sector partnership to promote Futsal in Shillong by creating a festival of competition, friendly rivalry, and sportsmanship, all while promoting the importance of sport for health and well-being. It is being organised by Big FM with support from the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs and Maruti Suzuki Arena, Royal Enfield, Indian Bank, T7 News and the Directorate of Information & Public Relations.
