-284 STUDENTS ENRICHED WITH KNOWLEDGE OF THE SCHEME–

With the aim of sensitizing Class XII students about career opportunities in the hospitality sector, introducing students to the B.Sc Course in Hospitality & Hotel Administration (HHA) offered at Institute of Hotel Management (IHM), Shillong and providing them with detailed information regarding the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Hospitality Scholarship Scheme-2025, the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District today organized an awareness programme on the scheme at Sutnga Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Sutnga, East Jaintia Hills District which was enthusiastically participated by 78 students of the school.
The awareness programme featured two technical sessions with the First Session featuring a brief overview of the B.Sc. in HHA at IHM Shillong presented by Shri. Shngainlang Marwein, Research Officer, District Planning Office, Khliehriat, who served as the Resource Person of the awareness programme. A 3 minute video clip of the College Activities, Courses & Testimonies of the Graduating Students of the Bsc (HHA), Shillong Institute of Hotel Management was also shown to the students to inspire, to encourage and to create awareness among them. In the Second Session, Shri. Marwein briefed the students about the scheme, including its objectives, terms and conditions, eligibility criteria and other relevant details.
The technical sessions were followed by an Interactive Session which comprised a Q&A segment, during which students clarified their doubts regarding the course and scholarship benefits. During the Q&A session, students actively engaged with the resource person and raised several important queries. The Resource Person addressed each of the questions in detail and clarified the students’ doubts to their satisfaction, which created a positive and encouraging environment.
Earlier in the day, the programme officially commenced with a welcome speech by the Principal of the school, Shri. M. Sutnga following which informational leaflets on the scheme were distributed to all the participating students.
During the day, a similar programme was also organized at Khliehriat Higher Secondary School, Khliehriat during which 152 students participated. Principal of the school, Brother Solomon Swer warmly welcomed the Resource Persons of the awareness programme, namely, Shri. Shngainlang Marwein, Research Officer, District Planning Office, Khliehriat and Shri. Ranald Wahlang, Tourist Officer, East Jaintia Hills District.
On 24th September, 2025, a similar programme was held at Rymbai Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Rymbai during which 54 students actively participated. The programme officially commenced with a welcome speech by the Principal of the school, Rev. F. Dkhar following which informational leaflets on the scheme were distributed to all the participating students.
The programme held at Rymbai was split into two sessions with the First Session featuring a brief overview of the B.Sc Course in HHA at IHM, Shillong presented by Shri. Shngainlang Marwein, Research Officer, District Planning Office, Khliehriat and the Second Session featuring an awareness talk on the Scholarship Scheme delivered by Shri. Ranald Wahlang, Tourist Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat.
The awareness programme across the two days successfully conducted in three institutions met its objectives of informing and encouraging students about opportunities in the hospitality sector. The students appreciated the initiative and expressed keen interest in exploring the career pathway facilitated by the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Hospitality Scholarship Scheme 2025.
It may be mentioned that under the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Hospitality Scholarship Scheme 2025, a total of fifty-five scholarships will be awarded with one seat allotted to each Block of the State. The scheme is open to permanent residents of Meghalaya with a valid Domicile Certificate who have successfully completed Class XII (10+2) or an equivalent examination with English as one of the subjects. In cases where more than one applicant applies from the same Block, preference will be given to the candidate securing the highest marks in Class XII, and in case of a tie, preference will be given to the elder candidate. Final selection of candidates will be made on the basis of a District-wise Online Examination. The scholarship will provide a 100 percent Tuition Fee Waiver for the entire 3-year B.Sc Course while all other expenses such as hostel, food, uniform, examination fees and incidental fees will be borne by the candidate.
