In a heartfelt tribute to the late Keishing Clifford Nongrum, Maha Vir Chakra, and to mark the Silver Jubilee year of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong, in collaboration with Singla Associates, organized a special event “Bike Rally – Freedom Drive for Independence.” The rally took place on Independence Day, reflecting the spirit of freedom and patriotism that defines this significant national occasion.

The event commenced at 9:00 AM from the Central Library in Shillong, with the family of Clifford Nongrum, a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War, flagging off the rally. This gesture added an emotional touch to the proceedings, underscoring the deep respect and gratitude felt by the community for Nongrum’s valor.

Participants, ranging from students to bikers and members of the local community, rode through the streets of Shillong, paying homage to the freedom fighters who fought for India’s independence and freedom. The route was filled with the spirit of unity and national pride as participants celebrated the freedom that was hard-won by heroes.

Addressing the gathering, the President of the Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong, Rtn Antony War said, “This rally is our way of paying homage to our fallen hero, Clifford Nongrum, and all those who have given their lives for the country. We are honored to have his family flag off the event and inspire us with their presence.”

Rtn sahil Singla of Singla Associates, co-organizers of the event, also expressed their pride in contributing to this patriotic initiative. A representative from the organization stated, “It is a privilege to collaborate with the Rotary Club of Orchid City Shillong to honor the memory of a true hero and to celebrate the spirit of freedom that our nation holds dear.”

The rally drew a diverse crowd, all united by their respect for the sacrifices made by the nation’s soldiers and their desire to honor the legacy of Keishing Clifford Nongrum. The event successfully instilled a renewed sense of national pride and unity among all who participated, making it a fitting tribute on the 78th year of India’s Independence.
