Over 700 students participated in a Career Guidance Seminar organised today by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills at District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, Jowai in collaboration with SPM IAS Academy, Guwahati.
The programme brought together students across the district with the aim of guiding and igniting young minds with confidence and helping them explore the pathway to their future career.
The seminar was graced by the presence of Local MLA & Chairman MUDA Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla. Deputy Commissioner Shri Abhinav Kumar Singh, IAS, Superintendent of Police Jaspal Singh Dhanoa, IPS, District & Session Judge, WJHs N A Khan, MHJS were also present along with other dignitaries.
Welcoming all, Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar Singh urged the students present to make the most of the knowledge, guidance and inspiration that the speakers shared during the seminar.
Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla, in his address, stressed the importance of career counselling for students, noting that many parents and young people often feel lost after completing their education, uncertain about what to do next. He expressed concern that unemployment is no longer limited to the uneducated but is now affecting even the educated youths which is a serious issue that needs attention.
He pointed out that while opportunities are plentiful in today’s world, the real challenges lie in making the right choices, while some students are clear about becoming doctors, engineers or civil servants, many are still unsure of their strengths and aspirations. He added that this type of programme is needed to help the students identify their unique talents and pursue careers that match their interest.
He urged the students to reflect on their strength and unique talent reminding them that ‘No dream is too small.’ Shylla encouraged the students to make wise decisions, discover their strong points and nature their potentials with dedication.
He further emphasised the importance of staying updated with the latest developments in society and the world as knowledge and opportunities are constantly evolving. Alongside this he highlighted that time management is equally crucial, since talent and knowledge alone are not enough without the discipline to use time effectively. He urged the students to prioritize, stay focused and to make the best of every opportunity that comes their way.
Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla also presented a cheque of Rs.1 lakh to Shri Deiwitawan Synnah, a renowned singer of the district for his valuable contribution in the field of music and in recognition of his effort to establish a new music school.
In his address District & Session Judge N A Khan, highlighted the importance of understanding the true purpose of education, stressing that education should not be confined only to academics but should broaden the mind and enable the students to make informed life choices.
Referring to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s Book ‘Ignite young mind ‘ he remarked that education is not about being told everything but about igniting curiosity and passion so that students may explore diverse opportunities and careers for themselves.
Khan highlighted the growing scope of law as a career, pointing out that it is now a highly competitive field with vast opportunities. He urged the students to recognise their talents and pursue paths that align with their abilities and aspirations.
SP Jaspal Singh Dhanoa in his speech highlighted the difference between a job and career, noting that while a job is routine, a career is when work becomes a passion. He encouraged the students to discover their own calling and appreciate the guidance they received. He highlighted the distinction between learning and education, stressing that real growth comes not only from books but also from life experience. He advised the students to engaged fully in the programme, understand themselves better and prepare to be somebody in life
The seminar was led by Mr. Hridesh Kumar Shrotriya Director of SPM & Lalan’s Guwahati and his team who guided the students during the session and provided valuable insights.
