
The College of Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences (CPGSAS), Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Umiam, Meghalaya, marked Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas on November 15, 2025, with profound enthusiasm, celebrating the rich cultural heritage, contributions, and resilient spirit of India’s tribal communities.
The program was organized under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Vice Chancellor, CAU, Imphal, and Prof. Dwipendra Thakuria, Dean, CPGSAS. Both leaders highlighted the day’s significance in honouring the tribal legacy and reaffirming the institution’s commitment to inclusiveness and community welfare.
A key element of the event was the motivational address delivered by Shri K. N. Raghunandan, Organising Secretary, Vidya Bharati Uchcha Shiksha Sansthan (Higher Education). Shri Raghunandan’s inspiring talk focused on the pivotal role of agriculture in national development, elaborating on how the sector drives India’s economy through innovation, technological advancement, and rural transformation. Furthermore, he reflected on the historic struggles and achievements of the Janjatiya communities, urging students to draw strength from this legacy and remain committed to contributing meaningfully to the agricultural sector and the nation’s socio-economic progress.
As part of the day’s celebration, CPGSAS felicitated two distinguished personalities from Meghalaya whose achievements serve as an inspiration: Padmashree Smt. Trinity Saioo, recognized for her exceptional work in promoting Lakadong turmeric, and Ms. Margaret Pathaw, a renowned Indian arm wrestler. Their outstanding contributions in their respective fields were formally acknowledged, reinforcing a sense of pride among attendees.
The successful observance of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas saw active participation from students, faculty members and staff, featuring insightful discussions on tribal heritage, cultural reflections, and interactive sessions.
