As part of the observance of the National Legal Services Day, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoiñ, organized a one day legal awareness programme at Mawthadraishan Block, Nongshillong, Eastern West Khasi Hills District. The event, aimed at educating the public on various legal rights and protection laws. The programme was well attended by local residents and community members.

During the programme, legal experts from the DLSA office including Legal Aid Defense Counsel (ALADC) Smt. L. Nongrem explained the topic on Free Legal Aid Services provided to underprivileged individuals who cannot afford legal representation, including assistance in criminal and other legal cases.

Representatives from the Mairang Police Department, Smt. A. Thongni WPSI  enlightened participants on the NDPS Act, 1985 and the social impact of crimes against women, whereas Smt. E. Myrthong, Legal Aid Counsel (LAC)  gave an informative session on the POCSO Act. The programme was well attended by local residents and community members.

The main objective of the awareness programme was to educate citizens about their legal rights and the various free legal assistance services available through DLSA. It also sought to encourage community cooperation and understanding of the importance of law in maintaining peace, justice, and harmony in society.
