
With the aim to further financially empower Self Help Groups (SHGs) through sustainable livelihoods under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), identified Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Cluster Level Federations (CLFs) under Wapung Block today received cheques and sanction orders under the Lakhpati Didi Initiative and Livelihood Promotion at a programme held at Mutong Community Hall, Mutong, East Jaintia Hills District.
Cumulatively, cheques amounting to Rs. 4,735,226/- (Forty-Seven Lakhs- Thirty-Five Thousand Two Hundred Twenty-Six Rupees) under Community Funds were disbursed to beneficiary SHGs and CLFs, with Rs. 43,10,226/- being Viability Gap Fund (VGF) under Lakhpati Didi Initiative and Rs. 4,25,000/- being Community Funds under Lakhpati Didi Initiative.
During the occasion, 3 (three) vehicles costing cumulatively Rs. 21,50,000/- and procured under the Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY) were released by the dignitaries. Also, bank loans amounting to Rs. 1,18,00,000/- were also sanctioned to Self Help Groups (SHGs) under Wapung Block.
Organized by the District Mission Management Unit (DDMU), East Jaintia Hills District, the programme was graced by Khliehriat MLA, Shri Kyrmen Shylla in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, IAS, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Livelihood Promotion (LP), Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS), Shri S. Lyngdoh, District Mission Manager (DMM), MSRLS East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Kevin Slong, traditional heads, SHG, VO&CLF members and people of the area.
In his address during the programme, Khliehriat MLA, Shri Kyrmen Shylla congratulated the Sanshnong Cluster Level Federation (CLF) for being able to achieve numerous milestones and for their dedicated efforts in managing and supporting the Self-Help Groups (SHGs) under San Shnong area. He also expressed his appreciation for the innovative Pig Hostel concept which enables other SHG members to participate collectively in pig rearing activities by promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities within the community.
Shri Shylla further emphasized that the vehicles received under the Aajeevika Express Yojana (AGEY) should be effectively utilized to serve the needs of the villages, particularly to support farmers and improve rural connectivity.
After the programme, Khliehriat MLA, Shri Kyrmen Shylla inaugurated the Vehicles under Aajeevika Grameen Express Yojana (AGEY), an intiative aimed at providing safe, affordable and community-monitored transport services in remote villages and also to generate income for SHG members who operate the public transport vehicles.
Later in the day, Khliehriat MLA, Shri Kyrmen Shylla along with Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, IAS, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Livelihood Promotion (LP), MSRLS, Shri S. Lyngdoh, District Mission Manager (DMM), Meghalaya State Rural Livelihood Society (MSRLS), East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Kevin Slong and traditional heads inaugurated a Pig Hostel located at Cham Cham,Village whose construction was funded through the DMF, East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with DDMU, MSRLS, East Jaintia Hills District and office of the Block Development Officer, Wapung C&RD Block, East Jaintia Hills District.
