
With the aim of providing basic health services including screening, treatment of diseases, etc and to generate community awareness on the importance of health, the office of the District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST)Centre, Khliehriat and Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA) today the 25th March, 2025 organized a Health Camp at Umpleng (Cement), East Jaintia Hills District.
The health camp was attended by Medical & Health Officer, in-charge Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) Centre, Khliehriat, Dr J. Nongtdu, Programme Manager, Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA), Khliehriat, Smti. Rinibeth Patlong, Nurses from Sutnga CHC, Khliehriat Civil Hospital and people of the area.
Speaking on the Health Camp, Medical & Health Officer, in-charge Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) Centre, Khliehriat, Dr J. Nongtdu emphasized to the gathering the significance of the campwhose primary objective is to screen the presence of Hepatitis Virus in participants of the camp while also stating that high risk people are likely to contract Hepatitis even as he urged the gathering at the Health Camp to come forward and get themselves tested for the disease.
Dr Nongtdu further elaborated on the different ways in which Hepatitis B and C can be contracted by people through different modes including blood transmission, sharing of needles, using someone else’s tooth brush, etc even as he informed the gathering on the different risks associated with Hepatitis C.
He also illustrated on the different types of Hepatitis and said that maintaining good hygiene is one key way to avoid contracting Hepatitis A & E. Furthermore,Dr J. Nongtdu underscored the importance of vaccination and early detection of the disease.
Meanwhile, Programme Manager, Mihmyntdu Community Social Welfare Association (MCSWA), Khliehriat Smti. Rinibeth Patlong in her speech during the programme extended her gratitude to the office of the District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District for organizing the Health Camp while also urging people of the area to take advantage of the free health services provided at the camp by getting themselves tested for different types of ailments particularly Hepatitis. Services provided at the health camp include screening of Hepatitis B & C, vaccination on Hepatitis B, HIV Screening, screening for BP, Diabetes etc.
