The District Social Welfare Officer, (DSWO) Jowai organised a programme to celebrate the International Day of Older Persons at Sohphoh Village Community Hall, West Jaintia Hills District on Monday. The programme was chaired by the village headman of Sohpoh Village Shri. Mutshwa Thabah, with a welcome address from the village Secretary.
District Social Welfare Officer Smti Y Najiar, in her speech focused on the theme “Ageing with Dignity.” emphasising the vital roles that elderly men and women play in their families and a need to enhance the care and support system for them.
The chief guest, Shri. Damechwa Dhar, emphasised the importance of caring for the elderly, with a particular focus on their health and wellbeing. He highlighted the theme, stressing the need to care for the elderly with dignity and to provide necessary support to them.
Dr. Y Sumer, encouraged the elderly to visit their nearest local health centres for regular medical check-up, emphasizing that “good health is wealth.” Dr Sumer and his team conducted a medical examination for the elderly person.
As part of the event, the office of the District Social Welfare distributed gifts to all elderly participants. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Shri. E. S. Kyndait, Dealing Assistant of DSWO, Jowai.
