International Women’s Day 2025 carrying the theme “For ALL Women & Girls: Rights, Equality & Empowerment” was today celebrated at a programme held at Khliehriat West Community Hall, Khliehriat.
Organized by the office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, office of the District Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with the office of the District Project Management Unit (DPMU), Megha- Lamp, MBMA and office of the District Mission Management Unit (DMU), MSRLS, East Jaintia Hills District.
This year’s celebration was graced by MLA, 5-Sutnga-Saipung Constituency cum Chairperson of the Assembly Committee on Empowerment of Women, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, MDC, 28-NarpuhDistrict Council Constituency, Smti. Deivipaya T Tongper, District Social Welfare Officer cum Member Secretary, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, East Jaintia Hills District, Smti. Rica Bareh, District Sports Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Smti. Stephanie M Rapsang, other dignitaries and members of the public.
Addressing the programme, MLA, 5-Sutnga-Saipung Constituency cum Chairperson of the Assembly Committee on Empowerment of Women, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla while extending her International Women’s Day wishes to all the women gathered at the programme, acknowledged the important role played by women in society even as she emphasized on the focus and commitment of the state government towards further improving the welfare of women.
Smti. Shylla also highlighted to the gathering the various schemes, programmes and policies implemented by the government to uplift the status of women while also impressing upon the gathering to report any cases of discrimination and violence facedby women and further called for collaborative efforts of concerned stakeholders in combatting against social evils.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi in his speech during the occasion stated that the programme was being organized to celebrate and acknowledge the achievement and contribution made by women in all aspects of society.
Shri Awasthi, while elaborating on the achievement of women in society,underscored the importance of addressing the challenges and issues which are faced by women in today’s world. He also emphasized on the importance of educating all the stakeholders in society that women issues are social issues. Each stakeholder in society must take responsibility to ensure equal opportunity and equal rights for all women and girls in society, he stated further.

Other highlights of the celebration include felicitation of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Brand Ambassador, Smti. Batbitbha Bareh, women achievers and a cultural dance performed by Anganwadi workers of Saipung C&RD Block.
