With the aim to equip students and teachers with essential research tools and techniques and to explore the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing research efficiency and innovation,the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Jaintia Eastern College, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat today organized a One-Day National Workshop on the topic“Research Methodology and Application of Artificial Intelligence in Research”. The Workshop was funded by ICCSR-NERC, Shillong, Jaintia Hills Cement Manufacturers Association (JHCMA), Thangskai and supported by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District.
The Workshop was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri S.R Marak, MCS in the presence of Principal Jaintia Eastern College, Dr P. Nongtdu, distinguished resource persons, Professor Ratul Mahanta, Department of Economics, Guwahati University, Assam and Dr. Hasin A. Ahmed, Department of Computer Science, Guwahati University, Assam, teachers and students from several colleges of Jaintia Hills.
In his inaugural address, Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District highlighted the importance of research in shaping the work of administrators, policy makers and professionals across various fields. He stated that the outcomes of rigorous academic research have significantly contributed to the development of effective administrative systems and governance mechanisms.
While sharing his own experience, Shri Marak emphasized that methodical and research-based approached are essential not only in academia but also in day-to-day administrative and developmental work. He encouraged students and research scholars to adopt systematic and innovative methods in their pursuit of knowledge, underlining that such practices ultimately benefit the community and society at large.
Furthermore, while acknowledging his limited familiarity with Artificial Intelligence (AI), he said that the workshop offers an excellent opportunity for participants to explore and understand the transformative potential of AI in research and decision-making. He also expressed hope that the deliberations andtechnical sessions held during the workshop would inspire students and teachers to utilize AI as a tool to enhance the quality and impact of their research.
Earlier, Principal Jaintia Eastern College, Dr P. Nongtdu emphasized the importance of research as the heart of higher education, highlighting its role in guiding discovery, innovation and transformation. He stated that a strong understanding of research methodology is vital to ensure systematic, objectiveand impactful studies that contribute meaningfully to society even as he said that the integration of Artificial Intelligence has revolutionized the research landscape- enabling deeper data exploration, pattern recognition, predictive modeling and simulation.
Further, Dr Nongtdu noted that AI tools have empowered researchers to go beyond traditional boundaries, automating processes such as literature review and data analysis, thereby enhancing the quality and efficiency of research. He also stated that this initiative aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP), which emphasizes promoting research, innovation and digital competence among educators and students alike.
The day long workshop featured the enthusiastic participation of teachers and students from different colleges of Jaintia Hills region with the first Technical Session with Professor Ratul Mahanta, Department of Economics, Guwahati University, Assam as Resource Person focusing on the topic ‘Research Methodology’ while the second Technical Session with Dr. Hasin A. Ahmed, Department of Computer Science, Guwahati University, Assam as Resource Persons focused on the topic ‘Application of AI in Research’.
