Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai celebrates its 58th  foundation day in the college auditorium today. The celebration was graced by Education Minister Shri Rakkam A. Sangma accompanied by Shri. Lahkmen Rymbui, Chief Adviser Government of Meghalaya, Local MLA Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla and Adviser of Education Shri. HM Shangpliang.

Congratulating the Kiang Nangbah Government College on completing 57 years, Education Minister Shri Rakkam A Sangma praised the institution for its significant contribution and its unwavering commitment to delivering high quality education to the region. 

Speaking on the significance of education, Shri Rakkam emphasized that education is not merely about academic achievement or securing government job, but it is about shaping individuals to understand the world better and contribute meaningfully to it, emphasizing its role as outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. 

Shri. Rakkam reiterated that the NEP 202O is a visionary step, designed to prepare students for the challenges of 21st century. 

He emphasized that teachers are the true architecture of the society and are responsible for nurturing young minds with both knowledge and ethical values. 

He stated that through the initiative like the Integrated Teacher Education programme (ITEP) course students will be well equipped. 

The minister commended the present government’s ongoing effort to enhance facilities in Government College and announce that the vacancies in higher education would soon be filled. 

He also addressed the pressing issue of high dropout rate in the state, calling for collective responsibility from teachers, officials and community in encouraging students to return to school, stressing that education is the key to solving many global challenges not just in Meghalaya or India but across the world. 

The Education Minister Shri Rakkam A Sangma in the presence of Shri Wailadmiki Shylla, Local MLA, Shri Lahkmen Rymbui, MLA  and  other dignitaries unveiled the ITEP plaque which began on the 12th October, 2023.

Two of the PhD degree holders Dr (Mrs) Sharailyn War Sohlang and Dr (Mrs) Saralyne Kharbhih were felicitated during the programme. Topper Ms. Naina Limbu in Botany and Mr. Mysonity Thoo in Physics were also felicitated.
