A joint inspection of ongoing repair works of NH-6 was conducted on 27th March, 2025 by MLA Sutnga-Saipung Constituency, Smt. Santa Mary Shylla along with Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Giri Prasad, Project Director NHAI, contractors and other officials.

Prior to the inspection, in the review meeting held in the office of the Deputy Commissioner attended by MLA Sutnga-Saipung Constituency, Smt. Santa Mary Shylla alongwith other officials, NHAI officials informed that the progress of the work is around 65% with the remaining work expected to be completed within 2 months.

Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi informed during the inspection that the administration is in continuous touch with NHAI with respect to ongoing work and no-entry of heavy vehicles from 9 AM to 5 PM has been imposed on request of NHAI so that the work can be expedited. However, the progress of work beyond Sonapur at Kuliang, Umkiang and Ratacherra is still very slow. NHAI has been directed to take adequate steps including deployment of additional manpower and machines to expedite the work.

Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Giri Prasad highlighted the critical locations where breakdown of vehicles leads to traffic jams and asked NHAI to take up these locations on priority and finish the work in the next 2 weeks.

MLA Sutnga-Saipung Constituency, Smt. Santa Mary Shylla expressed concern with regards to the slow progress of work beyond Sonapur. She said “I have inspected the whole stretch of NH6 from Khliehriat till Malidor today along with NHAI and district officials and I am concernedseeing the slow pace of work. I feel the plight of local residents, commuters who have to bear with dust, traffic disruptions and bad road conditions. I will take up the matter with higher authorities and we have directed NHAI to ensure the completion of repair work before the start of the rains.” Among others present during the inspection were headmen of Umkiang and local residents who have requested NHAI to expedite the work and urged the District Administration to ensure continuous monitoring.
