In a boost to the overall security in East Jaintia Hills District, the Mooriap Border Outpost (BOP) located at Mooriap Village under Saipung C&RD Block was today inaugurated by Sutnga- Saipung MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla in the presence of Sumer MDC, Shri K. Langstang, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, IAS, Superintendent of Police of the District, Shri Giri Prasad, IPS, Public Prosecutor, East Jaintia Hills, Shri S. Pdang, Daloi Elaka Sumer, Shri K. Mannar, traditional heads and people of the area.

During her address as Chief Guest of the programme, Sutnga- Saipung MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shyllawhile conveyingher happiness in being able to inaugurate the Border Outpost (BOP) at Mooriap Village expressed gratitude to all the concerned stakeholders particularly the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of East Jaintia Hills District for their unwavering efforts in fulfilling the longawaited aspiration of the people of the area.

Smti. Shylla while recalling the obstacles, hardships and insecurities faced by people of the area in the past decades stated that the Border Outpost inaugurated will create a sense of security and stability for residents of the areas under its jurisdiction which includes Mooriap, Umkyrpong, Lakasein, Samasi, Mynthlu, Kremmyrsiang, Pala, Mynthning and others.

On the occasion, Smti. Shylla also stressed on the importance of bringing various developmental works to the border areas even as she reiterated to the gathering the commitment of the government towards the welfare of people living in the border areas while also calling for the collaborative effort of all government departments inimproving the welfare of the people of the area even as she encouraged the residents of the area to reportdifferent issues relating security concerns to the police in the interest of their day to day safety and well-being.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, IAS in his address stated that the inauguration of Mooriap Border Outpost (BOP) marks a significant step towards enhanced security presence in the area even as he thanked local MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla for her continued support in various developmental initiatives being undertaken which includes distribution of ambulances, creation of community halls, development of new roads, etc.

He also thanked the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K Sangma for its focussed attention on the Police Department which is one of the most critical departments that works 24*7 and many a times in very difficult situations. He also informed the gathering on the Police Infrastructure Renovation Fund (PIRF) through which better assets are being created for the police department even as he pledged continued support of the District Administration in improving the working conditions of the police force in the district.

Shri Awasthi further stated that with the inauguration of the new BOP, the people of the area will not need to travel far for any issues which require police presence or involvement and took the occasion to express concern with regards to the issue of child marriage emphasizing to the gathering the need for more awareness on the issue while also urging members of the public to report such crimes to the concerned authorities for appropriate action as per provisions of law.

Earlier, Superintendent of Police, Shri Giri Prasad, IPS in his speech said that the inauguration of Mooriap BOP is very important for overall policing in East Jaintia Hills District while also stating that the presence of the Border Outpost helps improve the feeling of security among local residents and also enhances mutual trust and co-operation between the police and public. Others who spoke during the occasion include Sumer MDC, Shri K. Langstang, Additional Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri S. Paslein and Headmen of Lakasein and Umkyrpong villages.
