In line with the Prime Minister’s vision of Jan Bhagidari in Rashtranirman and the emphasis on youth-led nation building, MY Bharat, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, is organising National Voters’ Day Padyatras / Sundays on Cycle across State capitals and districts throughout the country.

As part of this initiative, a meeting was held today under the chairmanship of Shri B. D. R. Tiwari, Chief Election Officer, Meghalaya, with officials from the Election Department, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Education Department and National Service Scheme (NSS) to review arrangements for the second phase of the National Voters’ Day Padyatra in the State. It was decided that the Padyatra in Shillong will be conducted on 30 January 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Basketball Court, JN Stadium, Polo Grounds, Shillong.

The programme will include a “Walk for Democracy” with first-time voters, followed by a cyclists’ rally. An oath-taking ceremony will be administered by the Chief Election Officer, Meghalaya, in the presence of senior dignitaries at the conclusion of the programme.

A press conference has also been scheduled on 29 January 2026 at the Shillong Press Club to brief the media about the programme where all media persons are invited to attend the conference.

The event is being organised by MY Bharat Kendra with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Office of the Chief Election Officer, Sports Authority of India (SAI), National Service Scheme (NSS), Cyclists’ Association of Meghalaya and the District Administration.

National Voters’ Day is observed every year on 25 January to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India and to encourage informed, ethical and participative electoral engagement among citizens, particularly youth and first-time voters.
