
As part of the celebration of the 16th National Voters’ Day, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner (Elections), East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with the Office of the District Sports Officer, East Jaintia Hills District today organized a “National Voters’ Day Run 2026” under the theme “My India, My Vote” along the route Old Deputy Commissioner’s Office to Rymbai Public Health Centre (PHC) and back.
The 10 Km run was flagged by Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri S.R Marak, MCS in the presence of Assistant Commissioner, Smt. E.A Sangma, MCS, Assistant Commissioner, Smt. E.D Shira, MCS, officials from Sports Department and other stakeholders.
The run witnessed the enthusiastic participation of both male and female participants, including senior citizens and children who are under 10 years.
Winners of the marathon were awarded cash prizes along with certificates in both male and female categories. The first prize carried a cash award of Rs.10,000/- (Ten Thousand Only), the second prize Rs. 5000/- (Five thousand only) and third prize winners received Rs.3000/- (Three thousand only).
In the male category, JunomPhawa secured the first prize by completing the race in 28 minutes 25 seconds, followed by RishanmehiRyngkhlem in second place with a time of 28 minutes 26 seconds, while MeshantreRyngkhlem bagged the third prize with a timing of 30 minutes 45 seconds.
In the female category, Dakahi Kyndait clinched the first prize by finishing the race in 37 minutes, while Nemki Phawa and Ibarisha Phawa secured the second and third prizes by completing the run in 40 minutes and 41 minutes 17 seconds, respectively. It may be mentioned that National Voters’ Day is celebrated annually to reaffirm the commitment of citizens towards strengthening democracy through active electoral participation. The observance serves as a reminder of the power of the vote and the responsibility of every eligible citizen to take part in the electoral process.
