In an effort to empower students with knowledge and awareness so that they can recognize potential threats and safeguard themselves, the District Administration, East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with the office of the District Child Protection Unit, East Jaintia Hills District today organized a sensitization programme on “Combating Child Trafficking 3.0” at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Lamyrsiang.
During the awareness session, District Child Protection Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Smti. R. D Kynjing highlighted the importance of raising awareness on child trafficking and stated that as per the directions of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), schools are to be actively engaged in sensitizing children on the issue of child trafficking, its prevention, and the appropriate actions to be taken in the aftermath ofa ny such incident.
The sensitization programme focused on human trafficking, which was described as one of the most heinous crimes affecting society with the session included detailed discussions on several key aspects, including the reasons why children become victims of trafficking, Identification of vulnerable children, Indicators of vulnerability, offenders involved in trafficking crimes, human trafficking in India with students further sensitized on Child Rights and POCSO Act.
