
With the aim of reducing childhood mortality and morbidity due to diarrheal diseases and to actively involve local communities and community health workers in raising awareness about diarrhoea prevention and treatment, the office of the District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District today the 2nd July, 2025 launched the District Level Stop Diarrhoea Campaign 2025 under the theme “Prevent Diarrhoea, Take care of yourself, Use ORS and Maintain Cleanliness” at a programme held at Rymbai PHC, Rymbai, East Jaintia Hills District.
The launch programme was attended by District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Dr Dominic Shylla in the presence of Medical & Health Officer, in-charge Rymbai PHC, Dr L. Kharnaior, Health Educator, Rymbai PHC, Smti. D. Kshiar, District Programme Manager (DPM), National Health Mission (NHM), East Jaintia Hills District, Shri A. Dhar, Block Programme Manager (BPM) Khliehriat, National Health Mission (NHM), East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Lastone Bamon, ASHAs and people of Rymbai area.
Addressing the gathering, District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Dr D. Shylla said that the programme aims to sensitize people on prevention and treatment of diarrhoea disease in children below five years of age even as he emphasized on the importance of ORS and Zinc in helping human body to combat againstdiarrhoea disease and the significance of breastfeeding for children below sixth months.
Further, Dr. Shylla also said that diarrhoea is a preventable disease that could be prevented through proper sanitation practices at home and underscored the importance of drinking boiled water and eating healthy food, etc. Meanwhile, Health Educator, Rymbai PHC, Smti. D. Kshiar highlighted the gathering on the causes, signs and symptoms of diarrhoea and stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, etc which forms part of the process of prevention from diarrhoea while also taking the occasion to educate the gathering on several steps of handwashing technique by performing live demonstration even as she further urged the gathering particularly ASHAs to spread the message to their respective community and to educate community members on the importance of cleanliness.
