The District Level Inter School Athletic Meet began today at Kiang Nangbah Stadium, Dongmihsngi Ladthadlaboh, Jowai. bringing together athletes from 28 Schools across the district. Organised by the office of the District Sports Officer, Jowai in collaboration with West Jaintia District Sports Association.
The Inter School Athletic meet was inaugurated by Smt. A P Syiem, Joint Director School Education & Literacy, Government of Meghalaya and addressed the gathering of students.
Extending her best wishes to all the Athletes who will be taking part in the District Level Inter School Athletic Meet, 2025, emphasised the vital role of sports in shaping the character and future of young individuals.
“It is an honour for me to stand here before you today to share in your celebrations, be it in the field of academics or in sports, ” said Smt. A P Syiem.
“This Athletic meet provides a platform for you young athletes to showcase your talent and skills, and I wish everyone the very best.”
Highlighting the district’s recent academic success, the Joint Director School Education & Literacy proudly noted that students of the district had performed exceptionally well in the last Class X Board Examination.
“Just as you have excelled academically, I am confident that you will shine in the sporting arena. I hope many of you will be selected to represent the district in the upcoming State level Athletic Meet to be held in the next month,” she said
Smt. Syiem also reminded the athletes of the values of competition, stating that true sportsmanship goes beyond winning and losing.
“Sportsmanship is about how you play the game, support, respect and encourage one another and how you grow together,” she added.
Shri. K. Passah, District Sports Officer and Shri. P. Lamare, Vice President, WJDSA were also present at the opening ceremony, encouraged the athletes to give their best, they emphasised the importance of determination, fair play and team work.
The District Level Inter School Athletic Meet, 2025 will feature a variety of track and field events.
