Whereas, it has been brought to the notice of the undersigned that there have been several fire
incidents in various places under South West Khasi Hills District.
Whereas, it is found that the practice of burning of forests and shrubs / tall grass is badly
affecting the environment causing air pollution and leads to huge destruction of vegetation,
forest cover and posing a serious threat to the lives and properties.
Now therefore, I Shri. B. Mawlong, IAS, District Magistrate, South West Khasi Hills District,
Mawkyrwat in exercise of the powers conferred upon me under Section 163 BNSS, and in
order to safeguard the lives and property and to prevent any untoward incident, do hereby
pass this order prohibiting burning of grasses, woods etc, in forest and grassland areas, park
gardens, places of plantation, barren lands and burning of forests, in areas within South West
Khasi Hills District.
In view, of the urgency of the matter, this order is passed ex-parte and shall come into force
with immediate effect until further orders.
