Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, Dr. B.D.R. Tiwari, today appealed to all eligible electors across the State to actively participate in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026 and ensure that every eligible citizen is included in the Electoral Roll. He urged electors who have not yet completed the process to cooperate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) during their house-to-house visits or avail the online digital submission facility to fill, digitally sign and submit their Enumeration Forms.
Dr. Tiwari made the appeal while briefing the media on the progress of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026 in Shillong today.
The Chief Electoral Officer informed that the Special Intensive Revision has been progressing steadily across Meghalaya through the concerted efforts of the election machinery and the active cooperation of electors.
As on 14 July 2026 (09:58:12 AM), out of a total 23,49,645 electors, 19,91,883 Enumeration Forms (EFs) had been distributed, achieving an overall 84.77 per cent coverage. In addition, 5,64,610 Enumeration Forms had been digitized, accounting for 24.03 per cent of the total electorate.
Among the districts, West Jaintia Hills recorded the highest Enumeration Form distribution at 98.94 per cent, followed by South West Garo Hills (97.77%), North Garo Hills (95.12%), South West Khasi Hills (90.37%), and East Garo Hills (88.84%).
In terms of digitization of Enumeration Forms, East Jaintia Hills led the State with 41.55 per cent, followed by South West Khasi Hills (40.31%), Eastern West Khasi Hills (36.73%), South West Garo Hills (34.01%), and West Garo Hills (33.23%).
Highlighting the initiatives undertaken to strengthen public participation in the revision exercise, Dr. Tiwari informed that an Awareness and Interaction Programme on the Special Intensive Revision was conducted with the Hon’ble Members of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in hybrid mode on July 13, 2026, at the Conference Hall, MLA Hostel, Shillong. During the interaction, the objectives, significance, timelines and procedures of the revision exercise were explained, and the support of the legislators was sought in creating awareness among the electorate and encouraging eligible citizens to actively participate in the process.
The Chief Electoral Officer further informed that his office has been conducting weekly review meetings through video conferencing with the District Election Officers (DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to closely monitor the progress of house-to-house distribution and digitization of Enumeration Forms, besides reviewing other activities under the SIR programme. The officers have been directed to closely supervise the work of the Booth Level Officers, promptly resolve field-level issues and ensure that all activities are completed within the timelines prescribed by the Election Commission of India.
During the media interaction, members of the media fraternity requested that a dedicated facilitation camp be organised to enable media personnel to complete the Special Intensive Revision formalities. Responding positively, Dr. Tiwari informed that the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer would organise a special facilitation camp for media personnel shortly to assist them in completing and submitting their Enumeration Forms.
Appreciating the efforts of the election machinery, Dr. Tiwari commended the dedication of the District Election Officers, Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, Booth Level Officers, BLO Supervisors and all election officials for their commitment towards the successful implementation of the Special Intensive Revision across the State.
Reiterating his appeal, the Chief Electoral Officer urged electors who have not yet received or submitted their Enumeration Forms to complete the process at the earliest, either through their respective Booth Level Officers or by using the online digital submission facility. He emphasized that an accurate, inclusive and updated Electoral Roll is fundamental to strengthening democracy and ensuring free, fair and participative elections.
