The office of the District Sports Officer (DSO), East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with the office of the Block Development Officer, Lumshnong C&RD Block, successfully organised the two days second Block Level Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP), under the theme “Young Meghalaya, Shaping Tomorrow” for Lumshnong Block at Lumshnong Community Hall on September 8 and 9. The two-day programme aimed to inspire and engage the youth in constructive activities while fostering a spirit of unity, discipline and leadership.
The concluding programme was attended by District Sports Officer (DSO), East Jaintia Hills District, Smt. S M Rapsang, Principal of Star Publicschool, Lumshnong D Kumar, Pricipal of Devine word Secondary School, Lumshnong, Fr. C Marinda, Principal of KJP Synod Mihngi Secondary School, Thangskai, Smti. M. Syih,sports officials, teachers and students.
The programme featured a variety of competitions including One Act Play, Guitar Playing (Solo), Declamation, Quiz, Tug of War, Painting, Folk Dance, Folk Song, Science Mela, Poetry Writing, Story Writing and Talent Show.
In the Guitar (Solo) Category, Rikutjingmut Surong of Narpuh Modern Secondary School secured first place, followed by Kevin Anderson Lyngdoh of Devine Word Secondary School, Lumshnong and Ailadlang Massar of Pyrtakuna Village.
In Declamation, Baleisha Dkhar of Devine Word Secondary School, Lumshnong won first, Hashwaki o Patlong of Star Public School, second and Jessica Zote of KhaddumVillage, third. In the Quiz Competition, Star Public School, Lumshnong, bagged first place, followed by Jingiaseng Samla KJP Synod Mihngi Secondary School, Thangskai and Devine Word Secondary School, Lumshnong.
In the Tug of War Boys Category, Jingiaseng Samla KJP Synod Mihngi Secondary School, Thangskai emerged as the winner, followed by Devine Word Secondary School, Lumshnong and Star Public School, Lumshnong while in the Girls’ Category, Star Public School took first and Divine Word Secondary School, second. In Painting, Wownisoki Bareh and Ibashisha Pohthmi of Star Public School, Lumshnong took first and second place respectively, followed by Alice L Riengsete of Khaddum Village.
For Folk Dance, Star public School secured first place, Divine Word Secondary School, Lumshnong, second and Jingiaseng samla KJP Synod Mihngi Secondary School, Thangskai, third, while in Folk Song competition, Divine Word Secondary School was adjudged as the only winner. The One Act Play competition was won by Star Public school, Lumshnong.
In the Science Exhibition, Khaddum Hmar Students Association won the competition. In Poetry Writing, Ibashisha Pohthmi of star public school won first, Hospi Rupsi ofJingiaseng samla KJP synod mihngi Secondary School, second and Jessica L Zote of Khaddum Hmar Students Association, third. For Story Writing, Tremiki Swer of Star Public secondary school, Lumshnong took first place, Iaineh Syndai of Divine Word Secondary School, Lumshnong, second and Thomas Challam of Star public secondary school, Lumshnong
In the Flute comnpition Rikutjingmut Surong of Narpuh modern secondary school and Ailadlang Massar of Pyrtakuna Village won the first and second prize and in the Talent show (solo) Mary Nunthangmawi of Khaddum village won the first pize and Wanshwa Pohshna of Umkiang Village and Nancyka Dkhar of Divine Word Secondary School won the second and third prize.
It may be mentioned that Cash prizes were also awarded to the winners of the various competitions. In the solo category, the first-place winner received Rs 3,000, the second-place winner Rs 2,000 and the third-place winner Rs 1,000. In the group category, the first-place winner received Rs 5,000, the second-place winner Rs 3,000 and the third-place winner Rs 2,000.
The Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP) continues to serve as an important platform for empowering the youth of Meghalaya, promoting leadership, creativity and positive community participation. With the Lumshnong Block event completed, the next event is set to be held on 10thand 11thSeptember, 2026 at Dkhiah East Community Hall, Dkhiah for students and the youth under Wapung C&RD Block.
