On March 15, 2024, National Law University Meghalaya inaugurated its 1st Moot Court Competition, organised in collaboration with National Human Rights Commission India which was a landmark event in India’s human rights education scene, in its campus in Shillong. The competition drew law students nationwide, spotlighting high-level debates on crucial human right issues.
The inauguration was adorned by notable figures viz., Chief Guest, Hon’ble Shri Amit Kumar, Meghalaya’s Advocate General who emphasized legal education’s role in human rights during the opening. Guest of Honour, Shri Surajit Dey, NHRC’s Registrar (Law) who shared insights on the commission’s justice efforts along with Shri Arnold Nongbri, Superintendent of the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission. Overseen by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Indrajit Dube and Registrar, Smt. Kerpa M. Lyngdoh Nongbri, the event showcased national participation and aimed to sharpen students’ advocacy skills through challenging moot problems, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and advocacy for human rights.
The whole event was skillfully managed under the leadership of Mr. Yogesh Mishra, Faculty Convenor of the Moot Court Society, with significant contributions from his team. The competition concludes on March 17, 2024, with a valedictory ceremony to announce the winners.
