
Today, June 4, 2026, the headman of Wapungskur Village, Postling Dkhar, spoke to Media about improvements to the village’s internal road, which is 9.05 km long.
The Office of the Dorbar Shnong Wapungskur submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Shri Prestone Tynsong, in 2025. They also recently met the Deputy CM and presented him a memento in appreciation after he approved their request.
Speaking to the media today, Headman Postling Dkhar said that after he was elected as a Headman , in 2025 the village began seeking ways to get the internal road reconstructed. The road has not been repaired or improved for more than 23 years since it was first built.
They pursued help from district-level departments up to the state level. When they met the Deputy CM, he assured the Dorbar Shnong that he would support preparing a sanction for the road improvements. This year, the Dorbar Shnong received sanction for Rs. 6.75 crore for improvement of the 9.05 km stretch.
The Dorbar Shnong Wapungskur appreciated the efforts of the Meghalaya government. Dkhar emphasized that when the government does good work, people should acknowledge and support it so the government will continue working not only for Wapungskur but for other villages in the state.
Wapungskur Village has four localities: Tpepswer, Moopyniein, Umshongpet, and Snanlein.
Dkhar added that while there are many allegations against the government, there is also appreciation. As village leader, he believes that when the government does good work we should not unfairly criticize it. He noted that the government has implemented various schemes and infrastructure projects for different villages.
