 A District Level Science Seminar on the Topic “Artificial Intelligence: Potentials & Concerns” was held on the 29th August at RMSA Government Secondary School, Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District. Organised by the office of the DSEO, West Jaiñtia Hills District, the seminar witnesses an active participation of students from various schools of the district. During the seminar, student participants presented several key points on advantages and drawbacks of AI technology. judged by Smt. P. Passah, District Informatics Officer, NIC, Shri. Roibok Pohrmen, e-District Manager IT Department, Khliehriat and Shri.T Bamon, Lecturer in Computer Science, Kiang Nangbah Government College, Jowai.  

Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District, Shri. B. Sohliya in his speech as Chief guest of the programme, stated that AI had already been put into application a long time back in several cases such as making of Atom Bomb etc., but the term AI coined by scientists is getting popular only recently. He highlighted several areas of concerns such as Global Warming that need immediate attention and with the help of AI solutions of the same can be derived.

He also encouraged the students to actively engage their creativity in school projects so that may lead to revolutionizing the world we live in.

District School Education Officer Smt. A P Syiem was also present.

Certificates were awarded to the Winner and Runner- up of the science seminar – Mr. Gary Reuben Nongpluh from H K Singh Secondary School, Jowai secured the first prize, Miss Embhah Mary Rymbai from St. Mary Mazzarello Girls Higher Secondary School, Jowai and Miss Lewakani Langbang from ClearWater Secondary School, Shangpung took the second and third prize respectively.
