The office of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Jaintia Hills District in collaboration with the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) and RED FM, Shillong today organized awareness programmes under the campaign titled- “Opening Doors for Education to Children and Back to School Campaign” at Ladrymbai Market and Khliehriat Market respectively.
Present during the programme at Ladrymbai Market were Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), East Jaintia Hills District, Smt. B. Kharbithai, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel, DLSA, East Jaintia Hills District, Smt. K. Challam, Legal Aid Counsel, DLSA,East Jaintia Hills District, Miss Melody War, Out of School Children (OoSC) Co-ordinator, Samagra Shiksha (EE), East Jaintia Hills District, Smt. R. Sungoh, Special Educator, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri S. Kamar, lawyers, representativesofdifferent government departments, students, teachers and others.
During the programme held at Ladrymbai, Deputy Legal Aid Defence Counsel, East Jaintia Hills District, Smt. K. Challamhighlighted the gathering on the objectives of the campaign while also emphasizing on the importance of education and urged the gathering to ensure that their children are sent to school. She also spoke on the different causes which lead to school dropout which includes child-labour, child-marriage, etc even as she enlightened the gathering on several legislations including the Prohibition of Child Labour Act, Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, Free and Compulsory Education to Children Act, etc enacted in the interest of the needy and deprived students.
Out of School Children (OoSC) Co-ordinator, Samagra Shiksha (EE), East Jaintia Hills District, Smt. R. Sungohin her address during the programme dwelt at length on the schemes made available for the deprived children even as she stressed on the importance of education in one’s day to day life.

The programme at Khliehriat witnessed events including Recitation on the importance of education by students of Khliehriat Higher Secondary School and Poster Display by students of Khliehriat Presbyterian Higher Secondary School. It is worth mentioning that the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) under the direct supervision and guidance of the Hon’ble Executive Chairman, MSLSA has initiated this campaign in order to bring back all the dropout children to school and to protect their valuable rights as enshrined in Article 21A of the Indian Constitution and Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009.(DPRO, Khliehriat)
