The Deputy Commissioner & Chairperson, District Task Force on Child Labour, East Khasi Hills District, has informed the general public that Child & Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 prohibits the employment of children under 14 years of age in any occupations or processes. No adolescent, who is between 14 to 18 years of age shall be employed or permitted to work in any hazardous occupations or processes as provide in the Schedule of the Act. Whoever employs or permits any child or adolescent to work in contravention with the provisions of the Act shall be liable for imprisonment for a term of 6 months, which may extend to 2 years or with fine which shall not be less than Rs. 20,000/- and may extend upto Rs. 50,000/- or with both.

Every commercial establishment shall display in a conspicuous and accessible place, a notice in both local language and English containing an abstract of Section 3 and 14 of the Act. Non-compliance is punishable with simple imprisonment extending to one month or with a fine upto Rs. 10,000/- or with both.
