The District Social Welfare Department in collaboration with District Hub for Empowerment of Women and Jowai Women Police Station ,West Jaintia Hills District today felicitated Smt. Sawakani Lakiang, for bringing laurels to the state and the district by winning a gold medal in the SAARC women’s Bikini Model category, World Fitness Federation organised by South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation held in Mumbai on May 19, 2025. She is also made a history by becoming the only female athlete from Meghalaya to earn a Pro Card at the event.
Smt. Sawakani Lakiang from Tpeppale Jowai is also an Ambassador of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, District Hub for Empowerment of Women, West Jaintia Hills District.
The felicitation took place in the office of DSWO, Mookyrdup, Jowai.
Sawakani Lakiang was accompanied by her coach Dr. Desire Kynjin and family members. Officer Incharge Women Police, Inspector Smt. I. Kharpran, District Mission Coordinator, Shri F.G. Rynnga , DHEW, officers and staff of DSWO and DHEW were also present.
