
The 1st MLP Battalion Secondary School, Mawiong Umjapung, today concluded its Golden Jubilee celebrations with much enthusiasm and pride. Meghalaya Health Minister, Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Director General of Police (DGP), Smt. I. Nongrang, attended as the Guest of Honour.
The celebrations commenced with a prayer dance, followed by a series of cultural performances by students and a musical presentation by the Police Band, showcasing the vibrant spirit of the institution.
Health Minister Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, in her speech, expressed gratitude to the 1st MLP Battalion and its founding members for their vision in establishing the school within the police campus. She acknowledged the significant role the school has played in providing quality education to the children of police personnel over the years.
“I am heartened to see how this institution has evolved and now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the more affluent schools in terms of performance,” Dr. Lyngdoh said. She also emphasized the importance of investing in such institutions and urged fellow legislators to support educational facilities within their constituencies.
In her address, DGP Smt. I. Nongrang expressed her appreciation for the school’s remarkable progress over the years. She noted the school’s impressive performance in the SSLC examinations as a testament to its commitment to academic excellence. Commending the school authorities for felicitating students who have achieved success in life, she said, “This institution has overcome many challenges, and walking together for 50 years is a truly commendable achievement.”
Reflecting on the school’s humble beginnings in Bishnupur five decades ago, Smt. Nongrang expressed confidence in its continued growth and future accomplishments.
On this special occasion, the Chief Guest inaugurated the newly established Computer Lab, released the Golden Jubilee souvenir of the school and felicitated both teachers and distinguished alumni of the school. Dr. Lyngdoh also announced a donation of ₹1 lakh towards the construction of a new library for the students.
The Golden Jubilee celebration marked a proud milestone for the 1st MLP Bn Secondary School, highlighting its legacy of service, learning, and community growth.
