The launch programme was attended by SDO (Sadar), East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Manish Kumar, IAS, BDO, Saipung C&RD Block, Dr. R. Pyrtuh, District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Dr D. Shylla, District Immunization Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Dr. (Mrs) N.P. Suchiang, District Surveillance Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Dr L. Sungoh, Medical & Health Officer, in-charge Sutnga CHC, Dr R. Toi, District Programme Manager (DPM), National Health Mission (NHM), East Jaintia Hills District, Shri A. Dhar, District Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) Manager, East Jaintia Hills District,  Smti. D. Passah, ASHAs, Anganwadi wokersand people of Sutnga area.

In his address during the programme, SDO (Sadar), East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Manish Kumar, IAS reiterated the importance of women’s health and empowerment for the progress of the society. He mentioned that this initiative, launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi aims to improve the health and dignity of women across the country.

Shri. Kumar also stated that the campaign should not be seen only as a government initiative but as a people’s movement which require the collaborative effort of all stakeholders including government officials, community leaders, grass root level health workers, Self Help Group (SHG) members and members of the public in order to make the campaign a success.

Underlining the critical role played by the women of Meghalaya in the society and also as a workforce, Shri Kumar stressed the need for more focus on Cancer Screening, reproductive health and mental well-being. He also commended health workers and community members who are working tirelessly, even in difficult areas, to spread awareness and deliver their services.

BDO, Saipung C&RD Block, Dr. R. Pyrtuh in his speech stressed on the importance of balanced nutrition for children while alsourging Anganwadi workers to collaborate with community members through the Village Employment Council (VEC) to establish nutrition gardens in the villages. He further encouraged officials and Anganwadi workers to motivate villagers to utilize available spaces in Anganwadi centres for developing these gardens. The BDO also emphasized that good health comes not only from proper nutrition but also from regular exercise, underscoring the need to promote both nutrition and physical activity for a healthier community.

Earlier, District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Dr D. Shylla in his address urged members of the public to actively participate in the campaign launched nationwide today while also stating thatthe active participation of stakeholders will lead to complete health and well-being of all concerned.

It may be mentioned that the Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan (SNSPA) campaign which is being observed  nationwide with effect from 17th September, 2025 till 2nd October, 2025 focuses on the health and nutrition of Women, Adolescent Girls and Children; aiming to strengthen early detection, access to essential health services and empower families to adopt a healthy lifestyle,  to deliver essential services at the last mile, strengthen early detection and prevention and empowerwomen and families to adopt healthier lifestyles for a stronger, healthier India.

In East Jaintia Hills District, the fortnight long campaign will feature medical check-ups and provision of health services to women which includes screening for ENT, Eyes, Anaemia level, Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, Sickle Cell Anaemia, Tuberculosis, Dental Checkups, etc. 

The campaign will also feature screening for Oral, Breast &Cervical Cancer and Immunization Services, Antenatal Care Checkup for pregnant women, etc will be made available in health care institutions of the district. 

Enrolment under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), ABHA Card registration, MHIS registration and Aadhar Enrolment will also form part of the campaign.

Other highlights of the launch programme include a Short Skit on Mental Health performed by staffs of Sutnga CHC and distribution of wards to winners of the Drawing & Marathon Competitions organized during the Adolescent Friendly Health Clinic at Sutnga CHC which forms part of the launch event of the Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyan (SNSPA) Campaign in East Jaintia Hills District.

In the Drawing Competition, Banteibor Lamurong, Treri Yeini Patlong and Gabriel Nongtdu won the first, second and third prizes respectively while Banteilynti Lamare, Owishan Lamare and Warly Shadap bagged the first, second and third prizes respectively in the Marathon Competition. The programme also recognized mothers for their commitment for their child health and immunization with Best Immunized Infants including Baby of Smti. Prevail Lyngdoh, Baby of Smti. Mina Tamang and Baby of Smti. Manbha Langstang. (DPRO, Khliehriat)
