In a major step towards improving waste management in rural areas, Sutnga-Saipung MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla handed over a Garbage Truck procured under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Scheme, East Jaintia Hills District for the Financial Year 2025-2026 to Jalaphet-Bri Sutnga Village, East Jaintia Hills District today the 29th September, 2025 at a programme held at Mooshut Pyrdung Community Hall, East Jaintia Hills District.

Also present during the occasion were Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, IAS, JHADC Executive Member &SutngaNarwan MDC, Shri. Seiborlang Shadap, Block Development Officer, Saipung C&RD Block, Dr. R. Pyrtuh, Headman of Jalaphet-Bri Sutnga Village, Shri. Bevan O Dkhar, Community Members and many others.

In her address during the programme,SutngaSaipung MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla highlighted the significance of the programme in regards to community cleanliness even as she stated that the handing over of the garbage truck will go a long way towards keeping the village clean.

She also informedthat Jalaphet Bri Sutnga is the third village under Saipung C&RD Block to receive the Garbage Truck even as sheexpressed optimism that through this initiative,Jalaphet Bri Sutnga will become one of the cleanest villages in the district and set a good example for others to follow with respect to proper waste disposal.

Smti. Shylla, while speaking on the developmental initiatives in the village, emphasized to the gathering the importance of collective efforts of stakeholders including community leaders, members of the public and officials in ensuring that developmental activities reach the last mile.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, IAS, in his speech during the programme expressed his gratitude to the Local MLA for her active role as a member of the DMF Committee in deciding key projects for the district, including the garbage vehicle project for Jalaphet Bri Sutnga Villageand noted that Jalaphet, being one of the largest villages in the district in terms of population, was rightly chosen for the project, which marks a significant step towards ensuring cleanliness and improved facilities for the community.

Further, he underscored on the long-term benefits of the garbage truck, including better cleanliness and the potential for waste segregation and manure production from wet waste and also informed the gathering on the future plans including creation of waste disposal shed to separate wet and dry waste with the hope that wet waste will be converted to manure while dry waste can be sent to the cement factories of the district even as he emphasized that such efforts will not only keep the village clean but also promote hygiene, prevent the spread of diseases, etc.

Others who spoke during the programme include JHADC Executive Member &Sutnga Narwan MDC, Shri. Seiborlang Shadap, Headman of Jalaphet-Bri Sutnga Village, Shri. Bevan O Dkhar, etc.

Adding colour and vibrancy to the programme were cultural dances performed by community members and students of Sein Raij Secondary School, Jalaphet. It may be mentioned that till date, a total number of 6 (Six) Garbage Trucks have been distributed to various villages through District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Scheme to ensure clean and hygienic surroundings through proper waste disposal.
