As a mark of the observance of Gandhi Jayanti and in conclusion of Swachhata Hi-Seva Campaign a cleaning drive was carried out in the market areas of Jowai Town. Organised jointly by the Jowai Municipal Board along with the Jowai Traders Association (JTA), Dorbar Shnong Tympang Iawmusiang and the Market Committees of Seinraij Jowai, CNI and Iawshyiap. 

Earlier a short programme was held where Smt. D V Lyngdoh, MCS , CEO of Jowai Municipal Board and ADC addressed the gathering. She highlighted the values envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi, underlining the importance of cleanliness, urging everyone to extend their effort in keeping the town, market  areas and surrounding areas clean. She also appealed to the market committees to ensure that the vendors, shopkeepers do not litter, but place their waste at the designated collection point for easy disposal by municipal Vehicles. 

Shri. Puramon Kynjing, Dalloi of Elaka Jowai stressed that maintaining cleanliness is every citizens responsibility. He appealed to students not to litter sweet and chips wrappers on the road, encouraging them to be responsible and set good example for the community.

The programme was chaired by Shri. P Lyngdoh, Chairman of Jowai Municipal Board. 

Smt. DV Lyndoh, CEO JMB along with Shri. P. Lyngdoh, Chairman JMB, Shri. P. Kynjing, Dalloi and representatives from the Dorbar Shnong Tympang Iawmusiang, market committees, Jowai Traders Association along with residents, shopkeepers, vendors and municipal staff took part in sweeping the streets, collecting plastic and other waste , cleaning the shops, stalls, raillings and the surrounding market areas.
