Sutnga-Saipung MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla today inaugurated the Pyrtakuna Water Supply Scheme (WSS) under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in the presence of Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, IAS, Executive Engineer, PHE Division, Jowai, Smti. R. Kynjin, BDO Lumshnong Block, Shri M.Kyndait, SDO, PHE Khliehriat, Shri M. Passah,  JE, PHE Khliehriat, Shri D.Dkhar, Pyrtakuna Headman, Shri Loveyou Bareh, Secretary, Shri Pillarson Shylla and people of Pyrtakuna.

            Addressing the gathering, Sutnga-Saipung MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla congratulated officials of the PHE Department and residents of Pyrtakuna Village for fruition of the project funded under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), a mission which reflects the vision of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi to see that each household receives functioning tap water connection.

On the occasion, Smti. Shylla also sought the co-operation of stakeholders including officials, traditional heads and members of the public in conservation efforts of the water source by ensuring that areas nearby the source are maintained and not destroyed.

            Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri ShivanshAwasthi, IAS in his speech stated that access to clean water in the household saves time, effort etc and helps prevent diseases caused due to water drawn from contaminated sources thus ensuring better health outcomes for citizens.

He expressed hope that the water supply remains continuous in future and emphasized on long term sustainability of water sources through convergence projects involving departments including Soil and Water Conversation and Water Resources departments.                 

It may be mentioned that the cost of the Pyrtakuna Water Supply Scheme (WSS) is Rs.1.83 Crores and through this project, at present, 107 households under Pyrtakuna Village are able to receive functional tap water at their homes.
