With an aim to raise awareness on the importance of deworming among children and adolescents aged 1-19 years, the Office of the District Medical &Health Officer (DM&HO), East Jaintia Hills District, under the National Health Mission (NHM) organized the second round of National Deworming Day (NDD) and Adolescent Health & Wellness Day today the 14th October, 2025 at a programme held at Sacred Heart Secondary School, Byndihati, East Jaintia Hills District.

In his address, District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), East Jaintia Hills District,Dr. D. Shylla urged students to take the deworming tablets voluntarily, emphasizing that the medicine helps strengthen the body and prevent weakness caused by worm infections even as he encouraged them to adopt healthy habits in their daily life in order to be able to stay active and strong.
As part of the programme, health officials demonstrated the six proper steps of handwashing technique and educated students on the safe consumption of deworming tablets. A live demonstration on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was also conducted, providing students with essential first aid knowledge and emergency response skills. It may be mentioned that the National Deworming Day is observed every year on October 14,across the district with health workers administering deworming tablets to children and adolescents aged 1–19 years which will be followed with a Mop-Up Round which is scheduled for October 21, 2025 to ensure that every eligible child receives the medicine and remains healthy and worm-free.
