
The office of the District Sports Officer (DSO), East Jaintia Hills District successfully organised a two-day Block Level Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP) 2025 for Wapung Block at Dkhiah East Community Hall on 16th and 17th of October 2025. The two-day programme aimed to inspire and engage the youth in constructive activities while fostering a spirit of unity, discipline and leadership. It was organised with the support of the District Administration, East Jaintia Hills District and various educational institutions of the district.
The closing functionwas attended by SDO (Sadar), East Jaintia Hills District,Shri Manish Kumar, IAS, Additional Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri S. Paslein, MPS, District Sports Officer (DSO), East Jaintia Hills District, Smti. S.M Rapsang alongside teachers, students and others.
Addressing the gathering, SDO (Sadar), East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Manish Kumar, IAS commended the efforts of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department for initiating the Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP) to empower and engage young people. He highlighted that with more than 60% of Meghalaya’s population under 30 years of age, the youth are the driving force behind the state’s progress. He encouraged the participants to stay dedicated, disciplined and determined, emphasizing that the true value of such events lies not in winning but in learning and participation.
Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri S. Paslein, MPS congratulated the organizers and participants, noting that such initiatives play a vital role in channelling youthful energy towards positive and productive activities. He urged the youth to use their talents and potential to contribute meaningfully to society.
The programme featured a variety of competitions including One Act Play, Guitar Playing (Solo), Declamation, Quiz, Tug of War, Painting, Folk Dance, Folk Song, Science Mela, Poetry Writing, Story Writing and Talent Show.
In the Guitar (Solo) Category, Nathaniel Ryngkhlem of Gracious Disciples secured first place, followed by Faster Born Dkhar of Ephatha Society and NamanDkhar of Little Star Secondary School, Ladrymbai.
In Declamation, Casandra Sutnga of Little Star Secondary School, Ladrymbai won first, Juliana Lyngdoh ofJaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat, second and Boni Fast Khardewsaw of Don Bosco College, Byndihati, third. In the Quiz Competition, Don Bosco College, Byndihati bagged first place, followed by Little Star Secondary School, Ladrymbaiand Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat.
In the Tug of War Boys Category, Sutnga Presbyterian Higher Secondary School emerged as the winner, followed by Little Star Secondary School, Ladrymbai and Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat while in the Girls’ Category, Sutnga Presbyterian Higher Secondary School took first and Don Bosco College, Byndihati, second. In Painting, Varun Routh Bamon of Don Bosco College, Byndihatitook first place, followed by Sanjay Rai of Sutnga Presbyterian Higher Secondary School and ArBinakaDkhar of Don Bosco College, Byndihati.
For Folk Dance, Ephatha Society secured first place, K.B. Memorial Secondary School, Wapung second and Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat third, while in Folk Song competition, Ephatha Society again won first, followed by Sutnga Presbyterian Higher Secondary School and Tia Chaprang Higher Secondary School, Sohkymphor. The One Act Play competition was won by Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat.
In the Science Mela, Little Star Secondary School, Ladrymbaiwon first place, followed by K.B. Memorial Secondary School, Wapungand Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat. In Poetry Writing, Albert Solomnia of Don Bosco won first, RimayaSuiam of Tia ChaprangHigher Secondary School, Sohkymphor, second and EimisukDkhar of Don Bosco College, Byndihati third. For Story Writing, RobitoSangriang of Don Bosco College, Byndihatitook first place, HaphidawaShylla of Jaintia Eastern College, Khliehriat, second and Basilica Dkhar of Don Bosco College, Byndihati, third.
The Chief Minister’s Youth Engagement Programme (CM-YEP) continues to serve as an important platform for empowering the youth of Meghalaya, promoting leadership, creativity and positive community participation. With the Wapung Block event completed, the next event is set to be held on 23rdand24thOctober, 2025 at Lumshnong Community Hall, Lumshnong for students and the youth under Lumshnong Block. Winners of the Block Level events will compete in the District Level Youth Engagement Programme scheduled to be held inthe month of November.
