
The office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District today the 5th November, 2025 organized a programme for Distribution of Sanction Orders under the Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme (CMYDS) for the Financial Year 2024-25 to various NGOs, Societies, Associations, Clubs, etc falling under Wapung, Saipung and Lumshnong C&RD Blocks at an event held at the Conference Hall, office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat.
The programme was attended by Sutnga -Saipung MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shylla as a Chief Guest in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, IAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner& District Planning Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri S. R Marak, MCS, Research Officer, Planning Branch, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri S. Marwein, Assistant Research Officer, Planning Branch,East Jaintia Hills District, Shri V. Sangma, District Programme Manager (DPM), District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), East Jaintia Hills District, Smti. Sanda Sutnga and others.
In her address during the programme, Sutnga Saipung MLA, Smti. Santa Mary Shyllacongratulated all the societies, organisations and institutions for their dedicated efforts towards the development and empowerment of the youth and also encouraged them to continue working for the welfare of the youth by engaging them in constructive and positive activities that contribute to their overall growth and well-being.
Further, she highlighted that the government is fully committed to supporting the youth of the state through various initiatives and schemes in the fields of sports, skill development and entrepreneurship through schemes including CM-Elevate, PRIME Meghalaya, etc;initiatives which aim to enhance youth employability and self-reliance.
Smti. Shylla also informed that the District Administration, East Jaintia Hills continues to implement various interventions and programmes to prevent the youth from engaging in harmful habits, emphasizing the importance of guiding them towards productive paths.
Furthermore, she urged all NGOs, Associations, Clubs and Organizations to make proper and judicious use of the sanctioned funds for the betterment of the youth in the district thus enabling them to participate in meaningful activities in order to become responsible members of the society.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Shivansh Awasthi, IAS in his speech during the programmehighlighted the state government’s continued efforts to promote youth development and engagement through various initiatives and schemes as envisioned by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Conrad K. Sangma. Drawing from his earlier experience in the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, Shri Awasthi shared insights into the government’s vision of channelizing the energies of the youth in the right direction through sports, cultural, educational and developmental activities.
Shri Awasthi further informed that the Meghalaya Youth Policy provides a broader framework for youth empowerment, under which the CMYDS operates. While the CMYDS is an older scheme, the guidelines were revised in recent years to provide greater flexibility to District Administration in approving diverse proposals from local societies and organizations.
Furthermore, while appreciating the enthusiasm of local youth groups, Shri Awasthi appealed to organizations and educational institutions to diversify their activities beyond conventional sports tournaments and awareness programmes. He encouraged them to initiate training programmes on areas such as photography, marketing and computer skills and to organize study tours and exposure trips to reputed institutions including IIT Guwahati and ISRO Bengaluru to inspire students and young professionals. During the programme, altogether, a total amount of Rs. 16,71,000/- (Rupees Sixteen Lakh Seventy-One Thousand) was sanctioned to 33 beneficiaries which includes NGOs, Groups, Societies, Institutions, Clubs, etc under the Chief Minister’s Youth Development Scheme (CMYDS) for the Financial Year 2024-25.
