The District Administration Eastern West Khasi Hills District, on the 10th November celebrated the 4th anniversary of the District Foundation Day with grandeur at the Multi-Purpose Hall, DC Office, Mairang. The event was graced by esteemed guest Shri Metbah Lyngdoh, MLA who is also the Minister in-charge of Power, Textile, and Resources; Shri Shakliar Warjri, MLA of Mawthadraishan and Chairman, MTDC; Shri Powel Sohkhlet, MDC of Mawthadraishan; Shri Equator L. Nongrang, MDC of Mairang; Smti A. Kharpor, IAS, Deputy Commissioner; and Shri D Khyriem, MPS, Superintendent of Police.

Also present were the Syiems of Hima Nongkhlaw, Mariaw, Mawiang, and Nobosohphoh, village elders, principals, headmasters, headmistresses, and students from various schools.

The programme featured the Quiz competition for Higher Secondary Students and the presentation of excellence awards to students of the District from different schools and colleges who topped the merit list and scored the highest percentage in the HSSLC and SSLC examinations of 2024 and 2025. The event was also enlivened by songs and dances performed by the Blossom Cluster SHG and Kyrsu Music and Cultural Society Kynshi.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Metbah Lyngdoh expressed his pleasure to be part of the programme, he thanked all citizens of the district for their efforts in achieving district status. He highlighted the district’s journey from a sub-division to a full-fledged district after 45 years, acknowledging the collective efforts of officers, representatives, and local residents. He also stressed that the creation of a new district should translate into tangible benefits for its people, not just a change in name or status. The focus should be on strengthening governance and enhancing services to the people of the district. Hence, he assured to follow up the overall development strategies within the district.

He emphasized the need to continue the collective efforts in order to ensure all spheres of development in the district, focusing on areas like healthcare, education, and infrastructure. He congratulated the award recipients, encouraging them to strive for excellence and inspiring others. He also encouraged students from underprivileged backgrounds to persevere with their studies, assuring them that success would bring honour and dignity to their families, schools, and communities.
