The Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District has issued an official order constituting a Joint Enquiry Committee following reports of several students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Rymbai falling ill on 22nd November 2025 on account of suspected food poisoning.
Considering the seriousness of the matter and the need for an immediate and thorough enquiry into the circumstances leading to the incident, the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District has constituted the Enquiry Committee under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO)- Sadar, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Manish Kumar, IAS with other members including Food Safety Officer (FSO), East Jaintia Hills District, District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), East Jaintia Hills District, Sub-Divisional School Education Officer (SDSEO), East Jaintia Hills District and District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), East Jaintia Hills District.
The Committee has been ordered to conduct a detailed enquiry into the cause of the suspected food poisoning incident and has been directed to submit a comprehensive report including findings and recommendations to the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District within one week from the date of issue of the order.
Earlier, on 26th November 2025, the Principal of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Rymbai, Dr Raj Kumar had submitted a report to the Deputy Commissioner Cum Chairman, Vidyalaya Management Committee (VMC), East Jaintia Hills District, detailing the circumstances of the incident. In his report, the Principal, JNV, Rymbai informed that due to the sudden change in weather, 17 girl students had complained of fever, cough and cold on the evening of 22nd November 2025 and the said students were sent home for better parental care and to protect other students from being infected by communicable diseases. He also informed that on 23rd November 2025, some students complained of stomach pain. He further reported that the institution has only one staff nurse with limited medical facilities and students are living in the common hall at the temporary site of the institute. The Principal also informed that a total of 38 students (mostly girls) were sick and since 25th November, 2025, out of the 38 students, 11 of them reported back to JNV after getting well. No student is hospitalized and other students which are under treatment are also feeling better as per regular communication exchanged between the JNV staff nurse and the students, stated the Principal in his report to the Deputy Commissioner (DPRO, Khliehriat)
