National Voters’ Day Observed in Jowai

The office of the Deputy Commissioner, Election Branch, West Jaintia Hills celebrated the 16^th National Voters Day today at the office premises of the Deputy Commissioner, Election Branch. The programme began with pledge reading led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Smt DV Lyngdoh, MCS.

            The National Voters Day was observed with the participation of prominent senior citizens, first time voters, officials from various departments and staff of Election Branch. Also present were Jowai Dalloi  Puramon Kynjing, Election District Icons Smt. Sawakani Lakiang and Alexander Lyndoh. Among the officials present were Smt, B Blah, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Shri. F.Passah, Assistant Commissioner, Smt. P. Passah, DIO, NIC.

            Addressing the gathering, Lyngdoh, informed that as 25^th January falls on Sunday this year, the District Administration observed the National Voters Day today. She highlighted that the primary objective of the day is to encourage and facilitate voter registration, particularly first-time voters and to promote enthusiastic participation in the electoral process.

            During the programme, Voter ID cards were distributed to newly enrolled Voters and prizes were distributed to winners in the drawing competition conducted on 22^nd January, 2026.

            A total of 4239 new voters have been enrolled in the four constituencies of the district and they will be facilitated in their respective polling stations by the BLOs.

            Under 1- Nartiang Constituency a total of 1123 new voters have been enrolled, out of which 572 are male and 551 are female voters. Under 2- Jowai Constituency a total of 970 new voters has been enrolled, out of which 488 are Male voters and 482 are female voters. Under 3-Raliang Constituency a total of 1016 new voters, out of which 524 male voters and 492 females. Under 4-Mowkaiaw Constituency a total of 1130 new voters have been enrolled, out of which 541 male voters and 589 female voters.

            With the latest enrollment, the total electorates across the four constituencies now stands at 176114 voters (84748 male and 91366 female)
