Along with the rest of the country, the 77th Republic Day was today celebrated in East Jaintia Hills District at a function held at Holy Family Parish Ground, Khliehriat wherein Meghalaya Cabinet Minister, Shri Lahkmen Rymbui unfurled the Tri-Colour and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 11 parade contingents comprising of the District Police, NCC Units and students from different schools.
The ceremonial parade was followed by tableaupresentation made by 10Line Departments depicting their schemes and programme as also cultural items performed by students of the district.
The celebration witnessed the enthusiastic participation of government officials, students and community members.
During the celebration, prizes were handed over to the winners of the March Past Competition in which Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Rymbai NCC unit was declared as the winner while Jaintia Eastern College (JEC) NCC unit and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Rymbai- Girls were adjudged as the First and Second Runners Up respectively.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the Cultural Items Competition where K.B Memorial Secondary School, Wapung was announced as the Winner, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Rymbai was adjudged as the First Runner Up followed by Ambrose Memorial Secondary School, Khliehriat in the Second Runner Up position.
During the celebration, three notable achievers were alsoawarded for their exemplary contributions with Smti. Runita Phawa receiving the Best Cluster Coordinator Award for her dedication, leadership and effective grassroots coordination through the Self-Help Group movement in East Jaintia Hills District.
Byrwai Village Employment Council (VEC) was awarded Best Performing Village Employment Council (VEC) for the Financial Year 2024–2025 in recognition of its commendable performance and contribution to village-level development and good governance.
San Shnong Cluster Level Federation under BMMU, Wapung Block which received a National Level Award in New Delhi on 14thAugust, 2025 was awarded for its exemplary work in federation led inclusive development and effective convergence with government departments and the banking sector. Other highlights of the celebration include prize distribution to the winners of the Tableau Presentation in which the tableau presented by the District Project Manager (DPM), District Project Management Unit (DPMU), MBMA, Khliehriat was adjudged as the Best Tableau while the second and third positions were handed over tothe District Horticulture & District Agriculture Offices and District Commerce & Industries Centre (DCIC), Khliehriat respectively. Gifts were also distributed to inmates of Shelter Homes after the official function.
