With the objective of sensitizing officials and stakeholders of East Jaintia Hills District about “VB-G RAM G” (Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin)) to ensure its smooth implementation in the district, the State Rural Employment Society- District Implementing Division (SRES- DID), East Jaintia Hills District today organized a  sensitization programme on the implementation of Jan San Samvaad (Public Outreach) based IEC programme for dissemination of the provision of the “VB G RAM G” at the Conference Hall of of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat.

              The programme was attended by Deputy Commissioner & District Programme Coordinator, SRES- DID, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri Manish Kumar, IAS in the presence of District Programme Manager, SRES-DID, East Jaintia Hills District, Smti. Sandalin Sutnga and many other officials.

               Addressing the programme, Deputy Commissioner, & District Programme Coordinator, SRES- DID, East Jaintia Hills District highlighted that the scheme is very much instrumental in uplifting crores of people from the poverty line across the country. He stated that the programme continues to hold immense significance for the State of Meghalaya, particularly its rural population.

             He also informed that the scheme encompasses a comprehensive list of more than 200 permissible works, making it one of the most extensive rural development initiatives in the country. He further noted that the State of Meghalaya receives approximately ₹1,500 crore annually under the scheme, which plays a crucial role in strengthening rural livelihoods and infrastructure.

            Furthermore, he also mentioned that the Central Government has recently revamped the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), introducing key reforms aimed at enhancing its effectiveness, among the major changes are the increase in guaranteed employment from  100 days to 125 days and the introduction of advanced technology measures to ensure greater transparency and accountability in implementation.

           Shri Kumar also stated that the enhancements would further benefit rural communities and improve service delivery mechanisms. He emphasized that the objective of the awareness programme was to sensitize officials and stakeholders about the updated provisions to ensure smooth and obstacle-free implementation in the district.

          He urged all concerned departments, including the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) and other relevant line departments to work in coordination to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach the most marginalized sections of society.

          Meanwhile, District Programme Manager, SRES-DID, East Jaintia Hills District, Smti. Sandalin Sutnga delivered a detailed and comprehensive presentation about the significance of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 in providing wage employment, stabilizing rural income and creating basic infrastructure, and its backdrops.

           Smti. Sutnga while presenting the overview of the “VB – G RAM G” took the session in sensitizing the attending officials on its focus on empowerment, growth convergence and saturation for a prosperous and resilient rural Bharat. She also stated that VB G RAM G laid emphasis on water security, core rural infrastructure, livelihood related infrastructure, generating employment and enabling panchayats to contribute to the circular economy etc.              

Further, she presented a comprehensive distinction between MGNREGA and “VB G RAM G” and also highlighted the key features of the Viksit Bharat, G RAM G, Act 2025.
